Recruiting Now for Fundraising Volunteers.

Posted on Feb 28, 2016

What would you do in an emergency if something happened and an ambulance was unable to attend immediately?

Would you be happy to start CPR or deal with something traumatic in front of you?

Well our Community First Responder does, and this is all done in their own time, which is also voluntary and therefore, unpaid for their services.

We are recruiting for volunteer fundraisers, to help us raise funds for much needed equipment & training. This equipment and training is vital for our First Responders.

Could you help fundraise in your local area? Hold a raffle or rganise an event? Do you have a few hours to spare where you could help out at local events, or bucket collect.

If so, then we need your help! To enquire about requirements please contact

Strawberries and Cream – Barclaycard

It gives me great pleasure to share with you the delicious pot of money we made from STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM and TOMBOLA!

I will be sending a picture to Tesco, Mereway as a thank you for their generous donations, giving them our total figure made and the success of the day for our charity will also be shared. They will display this on their charity notice board for many of their staff to see.

£200 EXACTLY was made after confirming the tot up, well £199.99 to be exact but we donated the extra penny!!! So now I will submit the total to give us a whopping scoop of £400 to our Responders Charity.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for helping to support the day, it was fun, I filled myself with 3 bowls!! And we sold out around 3pm which was brilliant!

Thanks Marie

Head of Community Response out responding in Northants

Today the Head of Community Response for East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Mick Barnett-Connolly, came out responding in Northampton.

During his short visit he managed to attend two jobs in the new Community Response Vehicle (CFR05). First job of the day was a report of an unconscious male in a park ? Cardiac Arrest. This was quickly followed by another call for a male in Cardiac Arrest a short distance away.

Mick was amazed by the team work of everyone involved, ranging from the Paramedic Team Leader, Emergency Care Practitioner, Paramedics and Community First Responder during the attempted resuscitation of the patient.

The new LUCAS 2 Chest Compression System – (Physio Control) was deployed and a successful Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) was achieved, patient transported to local hospital for further treatment.

“It was a pleasure taking Mick out responding today, its great to show him what we do best” – Andy Simpson (Scheme Co-ordinator).

South Northants Community First Responder (CFR) Scheme co-ordinator Andy Simpson was a deserving winner of the Paul Richard Basford Award for Volunteers.

Andy has really developed the scheme since taking the reins in 2012. In less than 15 months he transformed the group into a larger, more organised, cohesive team. His fundraising and approach has given the group a more stable financial position to operate from, and enabled the provision of new equipment.

Andy organises and delivers talks and practical demonstrations to organisations and councils, and recently made local news when he saved the life of a pensioner who went into cardiac arrest.

He manages rotas, responds to queries and chairs meetings – all this, and he still manages to balance the demands of running his own IT company and having a young family!

Andy said: “I feel very honoured and privileged. It is brilliant that CFRs have been recognised as part of EMAS’ awards ceremony and it was great to be there.”

This award is sponsored by the family of Paul Basford, who was tragically killed in a road accident in 2001.

His family and friends have fundraised in his memory for many years, raising over £10,000. Some of that money has been spent on buying life-saving defibrillators for EMAS.

It was great that Paul’s mum Janette was able to attend the event to present the award to Andy (pictured).

Operation Journey – 2014

A major event designed to boost road safety standards in Northamptonshire will be held at Silverstone later this month.

Experts from Northamptonshire Police, the fire service and the county’s highways department have teamed up to organise Get Road Smart@Silverstone, a free event designed to increase residents’ road safety awareness and build on the work already carried out to make the county’s roads among the safest in Britain.

Inspector Jen Helm from Northamptonshire Police said: “This special one day event is an opportunity for the whole family to explore and learn more about road safety in a really unique and entertaining environment.

“We hope these out-of-the-ordinary activities and experiences, which have been designed to increase road safety awareness, will help members of the public become part of our county’s commitment to making Northamptonshire’s roads the safest in the country.”

The event will be held at the Silverstone circuit in south Northamptonshire on Sunday, May 18 from 10.30am until 4pm.

Entry to the track, which is the home of the British Grand Prix, will be free to everyone.

Attractions will include a competition to win a passenger ride around Silverstone in a converted Formula 1-style car, opportunities for riders and drivers of different ages to take vehicles around the circuit and get guidance on their driving skills, a hydraulic car crash simulator, police pursuit demonstrations and rescue demonstrations by the fire brigade.

Further attractions designed for children will include bicycles designed specifically for toddlers, a bicycle-powered Scalextric track and face painting.

Drivers will also have the chance to use remote controlled cars while wearing ‘beer goggles’ and safety experts will check child car seats to make sure they are safe and installed correctly.

Get Road Smart@Silverstone has been organised as part of Operation Journey, Northamptonshire Police’s campaign to make the county’s roads the safest in the country.
